Kerryn Manning back in the winners circle

Posted 6/3/2017

Australia’s most decorated reinswoman Kerryn Manning was back in the winners after being sidelined from a nasty fall at Charlton a few months back, when successful aboard 5Y0 ex-Kiwi gelding Duke Of Albany in The Guardian Pace for C6 or better class over 1750 metres at a terrific Swan Hill meeting last Wednesday.

First up since last July, Duke Of Albany (gate three) led throughout to record an easy 2.5m margin in advance of Daylight Dan which trailed and Diamond Ace which switched down to the sprint lane from three back in the moving line. The mile rate a slick 1.54.4.

Kerryn also trained 4Y0 Mister Big-Dont Tell Lib gelding Undercover Don to land the DNT Logistics Pace for C0 class over 1750 metres which was driven by husband Grant Campbell. Settling mid-field in the moving line from the extreme draw, Undercover Don sprinted like a gazelle in the last lap to lead on turning, scoring an effortless 5.7 metre victory in 1.57.2 over Girl With A Pearl (three back the markers) and Ronzel Jack which trailed the weakening pacemaker Rambo Raider.

Your Swan Hill Magazine 2-Y-0 Pace over 1750 metres was an entertaining affair, with victory going the way of Narrandera trainer David Kennedy’s first start Sportswriter-Alyceeorall filly Shes Sporty unwanted in the betting at Supertab odds of $20.90. With Blake Jones in the sulky, Shes Sporty (gate two) crossed Scarborough Flow inside her shortly after the start to lead for the majority of the trip, accounting for another debutante the heavily supported Christian Cullen colt Code Bailey which raced outside her, going down by 3.2 metres in a rate of 1.57.1. Shadow Play filly Macey Jayde also on debut was 2 metres away in third place after a one/one trip.

Champion reinsman Chris Alford snared the www.theguardian.com.au Pace for C2 class over 2240 metres with giant Shark Gesture-Ata Glance 4Y0 gelding Sir Gest in 1.57.9, leading all of the way from gate five to defeat Rocknroll Eyes (one/four) by 15.2 metres, with Lights And Music (three wide last lap) 1.6 metres away in third place.

Nanneella part-owner/trainer Col Godden’s Art Colony-Millenium Outbreak 4Y0 mare Ridethewildside was a tough winner of the Elliott Emu Pace for C1 class over 1750 metres in 1.58.4. With stable reinsman Josh Duggan in the sulky, Ridethewildside raced three wide solo for the last lap after a one/one passage, proving too strong for Boneshaka which trailed the weakening leader Thrilling Jolt. Forever And A Day was third after following the winner home.

Very smart 4Y0 Art Major-Vista Belle gelding Perspective now in the care of Brooke Hansen at Armstrong just out of Ararat, cruised to victory in The Guardian Digital Subscriptions Pace for C3 to C5 class over 2240 metres, giving last week’s Miracle Mile winning driver Chris Alford a double.

Safely retaining the front tunning from the pole, Perspective was never out of second gear, scoring by 3.4 metres in advance of Altana Blue which trailed and Fleeting Grin off a three wide trail approaching the home turn. The mile rate a comfortable 1-58.6.

*** The next Swan Hill meeting is going to be a big one on ANZAC day - April 25.
