Close finishes the order of the night at Swan Hill trots

Posted 7/12/2016

An exciting night of harness racing was held at Swan Hill on Tuesday, with several thrilling finishes throughout the evening.

Western District (Woolsthorpe) owner/trainer Ian Stanley combined with son Michael to land the opening race – the DNR Logistics Pace for C0 class over 2240 metres with Smiles From Heaven in a slick 2-00.4.

A 4Y0 Rock N roll Heaven/Smiley Ella mare Smiles From Heaven was given an easy time one/one from gate three and finished too well for the leader Saint Tommy to prevail by a half head in 2.00.4, with Ronzel Grinner 13.1 metres away in third place after trailing the winner. The mile rate 2-00.4.

Longlea trainer Glenn Sharp snared the quinella in the Wilenco Rollover Trotters Handicap for T0 or better class over 2240 metres when 5Y0 Tennotrump-Move On Bye defeated Tella Tall Tale in s rate of 2-01.6.

With Josh Duggan in the sulky, Spud after beginning swiftly from 20 metres was able to head off stablemate Tella Tall Tale, before scoring by an easy 5.8 metres in 2-01.6. Forty metre backmarker Its Not Dark Yet was 5.4 metres back in third place after moving to race in the open.

The Academy Graphics Pace for C2 to C4 class over 1750 metres went the way of Mildura trainer Boris Devcic’s Courage Under Fire/Quba Flame 5Y0 entire Blurred Lines in a slick 1-55.8. Driven By Nathan Jack, Blurred Lined from gate four led all of the way, accounting for Manassa Sky which trailed by 8.4 metres, with Give Me The Night 7.6 metres back in third place after a mid-field passage.

Strathfieldsaye’s Glenn Douglas kept his Swan Hill record intact when successful in the Spicers Paper Pace for C1 class over 1750 metres with consistent 6Y0 Flight Path-Maj gelding Half Crown Gap.

Taking a concession for Kilmore based Monique Burnett, Half Crown Gap was driven forward from outside the front line to race in the open, proving too strong at the finish to register a 2.3 metre margin over Seize Power which led in 2-00.1. Angrist used the sprint lane from three back the markers to be 15.8 metres away in third place.

Lance Justice was rewarded for making the long trip from Melton when 4Y0 Art Major/Our Waltzing Mathilda 4Y0 gelding Warminster led throughout from the pole in the Great Signs & Cool Designs Vicbred Country Series G Pace (2nd Heat) for C1 class over 1750 metres, leading throughout from the pole to run out an easy 2.6 metre victor over Halle Rage (one/two) and Tarleton Riley which followed the winner in a rate of 1-58.7.

Mildura visitor Ros Rolfe’s home bred Grinfromeartoear.Cisstar colt Franks Very Much named after her late father Frank, captured the Magic Image Transfer 3Y0 Pace over 1750 metres in a tight finish.

Trained and driven by Ros, Franks Very Much enjoyed a cosy passage from gate four trailing the leader JackdeL (gate two), before easing three wide approaching the home turn. Finishing strongly, Franks Very Much scored by a neck from Monash which was meritorious after facing the breeze, with Jackdel 3.3 metres back in third place. The mile rate 1-56.
