An Ainsworth double at Swan Hill

Posted 10/5/2017

Former Sandgropers the Ainsworth family who are based at Moyriesk in-between Avoca and St Arnaud, took the honours at last Tuesday’s Swan Hill meeting with a stable double – father Barry providing 7Y0 Majestic Son-Steffi Jay gelding Jaden Gil to land the Congratulations Jason Lee Trotters Handicap for T0 or better class over 2240 metres with son Ashley in the sulky who later in the night captured the Swan Hill Holden Pace for C0 class over 2240 metres with 5Y0 The Warp Drive-Light Diamond gelding Night Performer who he trains.

Jaden Gil starting from 20 metres spend most of the race buried four back along the markers after coming from the 20 metre mark and when taken wide on straightening, ran home strongly to score by 1.3 metres over Tiroroa Tom (one/one – three wide home turn) and Tella Tall Tale (three back the markers) in a mile rate of 2-06.6. Night Performer broke his maiden status at start number 48 after being placed only five times. Given a sweet trip three back in the moving line from gate two on the second line, Night Performer raced three wide solo in the final circuit, proving too strong at the finish for Atomic Warlord which followed him home, going down by 1.7 metres in a rate of 2-03, with Swearengen a head away in third place after trailing the pair.

The Ainsworth’s have been huge supporters of Swan Hill and rarely miss a meeting.

South Australian duo Aaron Brown (trainer) and Ken Rogers (driver) were successful with raging hot favourite Misschanel in the $10,000 Swan Hill Ford Vicbred Platinum Country Series N Final for C0 class over 1750 metres. A 4Y0 daughter of Live Or Die and Tealsby Force, Misschanel ($1.20) was sent forward from gate four to take the lead away from Artizz insider her, before coasting to a 4 metre victory in 1-57.5 from Pacific Island (five back the markers) and Renaissance Art which raced wide throughout.

Peter Manning and daughter Kerryn were in the winners circle when Art Official-Romelda gelding The Rusty Bucket finally cracked it for a victory at start number 11 by taking the Paul Nobes Used Cars 2-Y-0 Pace over 1750 metres in 2-01.1. Safely retaining the lead from the pole, The Rusty Bucket was never in any danger, scoring by 1.8 metres in advance of stablemate Flaming Lucky (one/one) on debut, with Edwin Bromac using the sprint lane for third a head away after trailing the winner.

Kerryn was to follow up with her own charge Itz Bettor To Win in the Swan Hill Automotive Group Pace for C2 to C4 class over 2240 metres. Going forward from gate six, Itz Bettor To Win (Bettors Delight-Itz All About Me) found the lead rather easily and the five year old was never headed, reaching the wire 1.3 metres clear of Alessa which trailed after leading out from gate two, with track specialist Nuggetpan (three back the markers) 14.6 metres away in third place.  The mile rate 1-58.2.

Ouyen trainer Murray Jardine combined with Ellen Tormey to land the 2240 metre Nobes Motor Company Pace for C1 class with 5Y0 Elsu-Cobargo Lucy gelding Elslatsy.  Bred by the late Ron ‘Slatsy’ Gadsden, it was a fitting winner on Slatsy’s home track.

In what was a creditable performance, Elslatsy galloped away from gate four, but after regaining his gait rather quickly, was immediately sent forward to assume control from Mildura hope Fat Kennys Drop which flew away from outside the front line. Rated to perfection, Elslatsy defied all challengers to greet the judge 8.1 metres in advance of Fat Kennys Drop which could make no impression, with Rambo Raider 5 metres back in third place after a cosy one/one trip. The mile rate 1-59.7.

Victoria’s most travelled reinsman Ararat’s Mick Bellman added another winner to his seasons tally when the Vince Vallelonga (Bolinda) trained Art Major-Bellobolton filly Gunnareign scored in the Swan Hill Nissan 3-Y-0 Pace over 2240 metres in 2-00.6.  Enjoying a charmed one/one trip from gate four, Gunnareign when eased three wide on the final bend ran home best to prevail by 4.7 metres over Starzzz Princess along the sprint lane off the back of the weakening leader Soho Rugaru, with South Australian American Kestral (one/three – four wide home turn) third a head away.
